The SPIRIT Product

by SPIRIT last modified Jul 15, 2014 12:12 PM

In a SPIRIT product, 1 ortho-image, 2 DEMs and 2 correlation masks are provided. The two different versions of the DEM are calculated using two sets of correlation parameters to cope with different type of relief. V1 is designed for flat terrain and V2 for steeper topography. V2 has more data gaps but the remaining data are generally more reliable (Korona et al., 2009). Visual inspection or evaluation against independent data (e.g., ICESat altimetry profile) is the best mean to assess which one of the DEM should be used.

The characteristics of a SPIRIT product are summarized below:

Astrolabe2 DEMs

40 m pixel size

±5 m 1-s vertical error

±30 m 1-s horizontal error

score from 0 to 100

Interpolated pixels à score = 0

SPOT5 ortho-image

5 m pixel size

± 30 m positioning error
