Par SSS Dernière modification 29/01/2013 10:14

The research products described below have been derived by scientists addressing specific scientific questions in refereed publications. These products include : 1) Alongtrack datasets, and 2) 3D gridded files.

Reports or Publications using product from this web page should acknowledge the origin of the product. The suggested sentence is: "The gridded sea surface salinity data set was made freely available by the French Sea Surface Salinity Observation Service (http://www.legos.obs-mip.fr/observations/sss/)".

Copies of published works and comments to improve our products will be appreciated.

I. Alongtrack datasets

I.1. Ship Tracks in the Tropical Oceans. Grid Size : 1° latitude (for the N-S oriented tracks) or 2° longitude (for the E-W oriented tracks) x 1 month. Domain : 30°N-30°S. Details about the data origin, validation and gridding procedure can be found in Delcroix et al. (Deep Sea. Res., 52/5, 787-813, 2005). Download the mean monthly year and climatology.

I.2. Ship Track in the Southern Ocean (IX23). Grid Size : 6 km latitude along the Astrolabe mean ship track, 1993-2012. Details about the data origin, validation and gridding procedure can be found in Chaigneau and Morrow (J. Geophys. Res., 2002). Link to the SURVOSTRAL program.

I.3. Ship Track in the North Atlantic Ocean. Grid Size : 3° longitude (roughly along 60° N) x 3 months (1895-2009) or 1 month (1996-2011). Details about the data origin, validation and gridding procedure can be found in Reverdin (J. Climate, 17, 4571-4584, 2010, and Reverdin et al. (J. Geophys. Res., 107, C12, 8010, 2002). Download the files.

II. 3D Gridded Files

II.1. The Tropical Pacific Ocean, 1950-2009. Grid Size : 1° longitude x 1° latitude x 1 month. Domain : 120°E-70°W, 30°N-30°S, 1950-2009. Details about the data origin, validation, and gridding procedure can be found in Delcroix et al. (Deep Sea Res., 58, 38-48, 2011). Download the 3D gridded file.

II.2. The Tropical Pacific Ocean, 1969-1995. Grid size : 10° longitude x 2° latitude x 1 month. Domain : 140°E-80°W, 30°N-30°S, 1969-1995. Details about the data origin, validation, and gridding procedure can be found in Delcroix (J. Geophys. Res., 103/C9, 18,611-18,633, 1998). The gridded file can be obtained from the CD Rom entitled Three Decades of In Situ Sea Surface Salinity Measurements in the Tropical Pacific.

II.3. The Western Pacific Warm Pool. Grid size : 5° longitude x 1° latitude x 1 month. Domain : 140°E-180°E, 10°N-10°S, 1992-2001. Details about the data origin, validation and gridding procedure can be found in Delcroix and McPhaden (J. Geophys. Res., 107/C12, doi:10.1029/2001JC000862, 2002). Download the 3D gridded file.

II.4. The Atlantic Ocean. Grid size : 1° longitude x 1° latitude x 1 month. Domain : 95° W-20° E, 50° N-30° S, 1970-2009. Details about the data origin, validation and gridding procedure can be found here.
