The "Space Geophysics, Oceanography and Hydrology", GOHS team's research activities are devoted to using space geodesy techniques for studying the Earth's system (solid Earth and surface fluid envelopes): gravitational field and temperal gravity variations, global deformations of the Earth, horizontal and vertical movements of the Earth's crust, sea level variations at global and regional scales, large-scale continental hydrology. |
Over the past five years, the team's research work has focused on:
Determining seafloor topography by satellite altimetry. Applications to marine geophysics. Space positioning using the DORIS, Laser and GPS systems and applications to tectonic plate movements and vertical motions of the Earth's crust. Measuring temporal variations of the gravity field from space gravity data provided by GRACE..Applications land hydrology, oceanography and ice sheets mass balance. Study of the mean sea level (global and regional scales): . Observation from tide gauge measurements and satellite altimetry; analysis of climate causes: thermal expansion of oceans, exchange of water masses with continental reservoirs and ice sheets. Continental hydrology using space observation: measuring water level fluctuations of continental lakes, major rivers and flood plains by satellite altimetry, measuring fluctuations in water storage in soils, underground reservoirs and snow pack by space gravimetry and link with climatic variability and anthropic effects. |
