2003-2004 : head of the research department of the « Hydrography, Oceanography and Meteorology » division at SHOM, Brest, France.


2002-2003 : Visiting scientist at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC, Bergen, Norway).


2000-2002 : principal contact of the research department of the military oceanography center (SHOM) for the physical oceanography team.

Scientific Interests :

My main scientific interests cover :

  • meso and submesoscale dynamics : vortex dynamics, current stability, upwelling development, mixed layer development, …

  • coastal dynamics : tides and internal tides, internal hydrolic jumps,coupling between physical and biogeochemical processes, ocean/atmosphere coupling, …

  • numerical modelling : new time stepping schemes, high order numerical schemes, wetting and drying capacities, optimal vertical refinement of levels, validation of closure schemes in coastal areas, …

  • technological studies : seasoar navigation, salinity measurements.

Participation in many scientific popularization events : construction of demonstration models on the dynamics of the ocean (in use since 2000 at Oceanopolis, Oceanographic museum, Brest, France), participation in different scientific popularization events (presentation of scientific activities, observation tools, modeling tools), presentation of the oceanographic scientific activities to pupils (from primary school to college) and teachers and to the general public during  open door days.

Projects :


Head of scientific projects. I have conducted important scientific projects at national level. I am currently the principal manager of the national project EPIGRAM. The goal of this project is to study the physical processes of the margin and the shelf in the English Channel and bay of Biscay. It includes wave circulation coupling, ocean/atmosphere coupling associated with the development of the mixed layer and coupling between physical and biogeochemical processes. It is based on the development of numerical models and campaigns at sea.

I have conducted several campaign at sea as a scientific director (about 300 days at sea). These campaigns aimed at collecting data for specific process studies or to validate numerical models.
