Titre: Assessment of Climate Change impacts on Coasts: Raising the bar
Climate change will increase the potential for coastal erosion and inundation in the 21st century and beyond. As the coastal zone is also the most heavily populated and developed land zone in the world, such an increase in coastal hazards is certain to result in massive socio-economic losses worldwide. To mitigate damage and/or to develop efficient adaptation strategies, decision makers need robust and dependable methods/tools to assess potential climate change driven coastal hazards. However, presently adopted methods to assess climate change driven coastal change are archaic and in most situations, simply inappropriate. This presentation describes some recently developed innovative numerical modelling methods/tools that are specifically geared to provide robust and probabilistic estimates of climate change driven coastline change for risk informed on-the-ground decision making.
