FES2012 hydrodynamic configuration tuning

by ECOLA last modified Feb 11, 2013 04:02 PM

Model parameter's tuning (and exploration)  is essential to adjust the best combination between physical parameters, physics parameterisations and model discretisation.

Bathymetry proofing

Bathymetry remains one of the most critical parameter for tides. Special attention has been paid to regions where most of the tidal dissipation tthrough bottom frictionis taking place.

Adjustements parameters

Friction coefficient

Internal tide wave drag coefficient

Discretisation exploration

It has been noticed that tidal currents can be strongly enhanced at some continental margins (typically in the bay of Biscay) when velocity discretisation are discontinuous and where horizontal resolution is not sufficient.
