OBSERVATIONS CAUSES:GLOBAL SCALE CAUSES: REGIONAL SCALE DATA AND MAPS
The sum of climate contributions (thermal expansion, continental ice and land waters) to rise in sea level approaches 3 mm/yr for 1993-2005. This value agrees well with satellite altimetry observations (of 3.3 mm/yr) (Figure 1).

A recent study (Rafmstorf et al., 2007) compared observed sea level rise to climate model projection since 1990 (IPCC 3rd assessment report 2001) (Figure 2) We note that observed sea level follows the upper limit of the projections.
