Bay of Biscay 


Our team is conducting several research projects in the Bay of Biscay, addressing the following issues:


These issues are addressed using numerical modeling and both in situ and satellite data. We are working in close collaboration with colleagues from Laboratoire d’Aérologie within the POC group (Pôle Océan Couplages, Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées) and are running and developing some SIROCCO numerical tools. Several studies rely on altimetric data distributed by CTOH. Bay of Biscay is a region that is also used as a test case for method and tools developments.


Our team has contributed to the French project EPIGRAM, that gathered scientists from several French institutes (e.g. LEGOS, LA, LPO, SHOM, IFREMER, MERCATOR-Océan, …) as well as AZTI-Tecnalia from Spain. EPIGRAM has been supported by LEFE/INSU and ANR over the period 2009-2013. To read more about EPIGRAM, click here.

Works on altimetry and data assimilation are supported by CNES through the OSTST projects MICSS 1&2 (Multisensor Impact assessment in Coastal and Shelf Seas) and the PRESCOB project for the SWOT SDT.

The team is also collaborating with MERCATOR-Ocean within the MyOcean project on the IBI/NEMO model and on the setup of a data assimilation scheme based on Ensemble Optimal Interpolation (EnOI).

Data assimilation and downscaling issues are also addressed in the AMICO1a project, supported by the Ministère de l'Ecologie, du Développement Durable et de l'Energie.
