Title : Impacts of projected climate change on the cryosphere and implications for sea level rise

Abstract: The polar regions are predicted to warm at a rate of around twice the global mean. The Arctic has warmed by around 2 degrees in the last 25 years and some of the most dramatic signals of climate warming are found there. I will give a brief overview of recent observations of sea ice, permafrost and glacier trends in the polar regions before focusing on observations of ice sheet change of a range of time scales from glacial-cycles to the satellite record covering the last ~28 years and then look at the challenges of projecting their future trends and the implications for global and regional sea level.
