TITLE:  CANEK 2007-2014: RESULTS FROM AN INTENSIVE OBSERVATIONAL AND MODELLING PROGRAM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO.

Abstract: A summary of the main results obtained so far from the CANEK Project is presented. The observational network in the Gulf of Mexico consists of 33 intermediate and deep water moorings, 4 realtime buoys and tens of surface drifters. It also includes 17 moorings recently (2012) deployed simultaneously in the Yucatan Channel and Florida Straits. Different configurations of NEMO and ROMS models are used operationally and for process studies. Deep circulation, inertial energy generation and its subsequent trapping by eddies, cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Campeche and Loop Current eddies are among the topics discussed.
